A Malta Police traffic officer who almost died in an alleged hit-and-run incident has revealed the extent of his injuries.
Hero PC Simon Schembri from Paola spent three weeks fighting for his life at Mater Dei Hospital after being knocked down by a car in Luqa.
His lower right arm had to be amputated and he suffered serious chest injuries following the horrific incident last month.
A photograph showing the police constable giving a thumbs up sign was uploaded on Facebook as a message of courage.
PC Schembri said he doesn’t think about what has happened to him.
His colleague Inspector Hermann Mula said the photo showed his friend’s incredible determination.
He told The Malta Independent: ‘It is a positive picture.
‘It shows he is psychologically determined and he wants to give other people courage.’
The alleged car driver Liam Debono, 17, from Tarxien has been charged in court with attempted murder and remanded in custody.
The photo was shared on Good Guys in Bad Lands.
