If there’s anything to take away from 2021, it’s that Netflix’s Squid Game took the world by storm as it shot up to the streaming giant’s top spot. And before you keep reading – WARNING: spoiler alert.
The series gained popularity so fast, that it will soon be getting a second installment, which is expected to explore the emotional aftermath of the deadly games…
Season 2 will reportedly explore the vulnerable side of the main character Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae who was last seen exiting a boarding plane to confront the creators of the grisly game.
In a virtual panel, the director of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed: ‘I’m not really in the right place to be discussing Season 2 in an official setting… in the first season we saw Gi-hun is a character whose humanity is shown through or exposed in certain situations.’
‘In other words, his humanity is shown through a very passive manner. But I would think that in the second season, what he has learned from the games and his experience in the first season, they will all be put to use in a more active manner.’, he added.
He continued to express his appreciation for how well-received the series was, remarking: ‘The fact that something we prepared for a long time and showcased to the world in the Korean language and filled with Korean culture… the fact that this was loved by so many around the world and so many people related to it, that was something I’m really proud of.’
We have no idea when Season 2 will land, but you can stream Season 1 on Netflix for the time being!
