For the first-time ever, Apple yesterday held a virtual-only special event, giving us also a glimpse at the Apple Park, a gorgeous piece of architecture and home to all things Apple.
Fronted by Tim Cook, with the participation of a number of Apple big-shots, those of us who tuned in at 7pm were taken on a wonderful journey as Apple launched new products…but not the new iPhone.
Apple Watch Series 6 – with New Colours and New Faces
Keeping the same design as the Series 4 and 5 models, Apple Watch Series 6 has internal improvements and new finishes, which also includes the addition of an oximeter sensor, which is capable of measuring blood oxygen levels.
This year’s Apple Watch is very similar to previous models, and it’s available in 40mm and 44m with an always-on Retina display. Apple Watch Series 6 includes new watch faces: GMT face with multiple time zones, countup face for tracking lap times, chronograph pro face with tachymeter, typograph face, memoji face, flag stripe face.
Another new Series 6 Feature is that the screen is now always-on, and 2.5 times brighter – PLUS Apple have also released new bands – the new Solo Band, the new braided solo band, a new Leather band and new Nike Band Colours.
Apple also introduced Apple Watch SE, which Series 4/5/6 design, and Apple’s S5’s processor, which will be available in GPS and Cellular models, and cheaper than the S6 model. Watch OS7 will also be adding a new Family Setup feature, which means that the Apple Watch can be set up even for people within your family who do not own an iPhone. This is great especially for Children. Parents can track their children’s movements, they can also control their contact list and their apps.
Apple’s VP for Environment spoke about how Apple is caring for the environment and said that from S6, Apple is removing the USB Adapter from the Apple Watch Box.
The New Apple Fitness+ Service will have 10 types of workouts from world-class trainers, integrating Apple Music, and with new workouts added every week. Apple Fitness+ includes workouts that require little to no equipment, as well as ones for rowing, treadmills, and biking.
Workouts will be built into Fitness app on iPhone, new Fitness app on iPad and Apple TV. Using the Watch as the source, your iPhone/iPad/AppleTV will show you all the health stats from your watch on the screen, as well as keep you updated on how your daily rings are looking.
Fitness+ will be a subscription service, but we have to wait a bit to have it available in Malta.
Apple One is a subscription bundle which will incorporate Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud, News+ and Fitness+.
8th Generation iPad
Apple confirmed a new iPad Aid, with a 10.9-inch display, an iPad Pro-inspired design, Touch ID through the power button and a USB-C Port. iPad Aid will feature second-generation Apple Pencil support and Magic Keyboard support also.
The New iPad Air will be available in Silver, Space Gray, Rose Gold, Green, and a gorgeous Sky Blue.
After reading this many of you will be hitting Settings > General > Software Update quite a lot today as Tim Cook confirmed that today, iOS14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7 and tvOS 14 will be released worldwide!
iOS 14 is a significant update for iPhone users, bringing long-awaited support for Home screen widgets, as well as a new App Library feature for organizing apps that you don’t want to keep on your Home screen.
iOS 14 also brings new compact interfaces for Siri and incoming phone calls, as well as picture-in-picture features for video playback.
