Heartbreaking tributes for woman killed in Mgarr

Emotional tributes have been paid to a Maltese woman ‘with a beautiful smile’ who died in a freak road accident.

Jess Micallef, 22, was killed when she opened the door of a moving car and ‘jumped out’.

Her devastated friends and family paid their respects on social media.

One posted on Facebook: ‘Jess, we love you so, so much.

‘We are all so proud of what you have achieved in your life.

‘You will be missed beyond belief.’

Malta Police told 89.7 Bay that the accident took place at around 2.25pm on Sunday on Bingemma Road in Mgarr.

She was being driven home by her boyfriend Daniel Mizzi, 24, from Zabbar when it happened.

Jess was a dedicated fire rescue volunteer with the St John Rescue Corps, based in Madliena.

In a statement, the rescue organisation said: ‘We are saddened by the loss of one of us, Jess Micallef, an active fire and rescue volunteer for the past three years.

‘Many of us will remember you for your dedication towards our cause, for your great heart and beautiful smile.

‘She is gone but will forever be in our hearts.

‘Our sincere condolences to her family and friends.’

Devastated friends told of their shock and sadness on social media.

One wrote: ‘Jess, I can’t believe this! It seems like yesterday when we met for the first time in school. Another angel in heaven.’

Another added: ‘A gentle soul with a tough act. An amazingly funny person but the kindness always shone through.

‘Caring about everyone and gathering people together. You will truly be missed and never forgotten.’
