Hailstorm transforms Malta into a winter wonderland

Where did that come from?

Malta has taken a bit of a battering after a shower of hailstones rained down on parts of the island.

Things seemed fairly normal before the hailstorm brought an almighty crashing sound onto roofs and people started running to their windows to see what was going on.

The shower experienced in parts of Mellieha, St Paul’s Bay and Gozo on Tuesday evening was brief however it transformed parts of the countryside into a winter wonderland.

The football pitches in Mellieha looked particularly frosty, almost as if they were covered in a thin layer of snow.

The hailstorm had been predicted by Maltese Islands Weather.

No more hail is expected this week.

The Met Office in Luqa said Wednesday would be ‘rather cloudy with isolated showers and thundery at times’.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are set to be windy with isolated showers but the good news is we can expect plenty of sunshine and blue skies on Sunday.

It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas
