Gozo’s new Queen Mary medical school opens its doors

The new medical school building at Queen Mary University of London‘s Gozo campus has been officially opened.

Bosses said it will provide medical students and staff of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry with state-of-the-art facilities.

The four-storey 8,100 square metre building is situated next to Gozo General Hospital in Victoria.

It includes:

  • A 140 seat auditorium
  • Two smaller lecture theatres that can combine into a 120 seat facility
  • Two computer labs, each with capacity for 70 students
  • Teaching rooms and clinical skills rooms.

The building also hosts a library, student support facilities, a large canteen and social space, and offices.

Professor Anthony Warrens, Dean for Education at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, said: ‘This marks a significant new chapter in Queen Mary’s presence in Malta.

‘This state-of-the-art facility will be a boon for students and staff alike, creating an excellent teaching and learning environment while also providing additional areas for students to study and relax.’

The new building adds to Queen Mary University’s Gozo campus which includes an anatomy centre, which opened in 2018.

Queen Mary University of London launched a five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery programme in Malta two years ago.

The course is taught using the same curriculum as Barts in London.
