Gozo’s much-missed Azure Window gets special honour

It made headlines around the world when it crashed into the sea at Dwejra in Gozo.

But now the Azure Window is to be remembered by having a street named after it.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat approved the name for a new road in San Lawrenz.

Azure Window Street will link Tower Street and Dwejra Road in the quiet Gozo village, officials confirmed.

The iconic rock arch crashed into the sea on 8 March 2017 after being battered by ferocious waves during a storm.

Just days before the collapse, the Azure Window was ranked among the ‘Top 20 Wonders of The Natural World’ by a leading international holiday magazine.

The arch was one of the most popular selfie spots in the Maltese Islands and was named the most Instagrammed location in Gozo of 2016.
