The Citadel in Gozo is in the running for yet another top international award.
The iconic fortress in Victoria has been nominated in the culture and tourism category at the World Summit Awards for its dedicated mobile app.
The ‘Ċittadella App‘ will go head-to-head with nominees from more than 100 countries around the world for the top prize.
Launched by the Ministry for Gozo in 2016, the app was devised as part of a campaign to bring the Citadel closer to the people.
The app, developed by Keen.com.mt, aims to help visitors explore the Citadel as soon as they enter the fortress, providing them with background information, maps, videos, photos and much more.
Heritage Malta chairman and former Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said: ‘The nomination is a huge compliment and acknowledgement for the work being done during the restoration work and presents the Citadel once again on an international level.’
The World Summit Awards aims to promote the world’s best digital content and innovative applications.
The winners of the competition will be announced in December.
