Got a New Version of Messenger? Here’s Why!

Looks like it’s a big week for all things Tech. Following Apple’s Event earlier this week, and Google’s new Search Functions a couple of days ago, Facebook wanted in on all the action too.

Over the past days Messenger got a new look to mark Facebook’s continued evolution from a simple way to message your Facebook friends, to a place to hang out with your favorite people, on your favorite apps and devices.

With over a billion users around the world, Facebook say that their “mission is to be a universal way to connect and be closer together. That mission has never been more important as people everywhere look to private online spaces to stay connected.”

This update will also pave the way for cross-communication with Instagram which is also owned by the social media giant. However this will only be available in North America for now.

On the visual side, one noticeable change — meant to be reflective of Messenger’s cross-platform messaging capabilities — is the updated Messenger logo. It now looks more Instagram-esque, with shades of blues, purples and pinks, instead of being Facebook blue. The default chat colour has also changed to match the logo!

There are also new chat themes, including love and tie-dye, which will definitely make our Ylenia happy, and you can also have custom reactions, which allow you to react with a variety of emoji instead of the standard set offered today.

There are other features to be available soon. These include selfie stickers, and a vanish mode, which makes chat disappear!
