Glass of wine or two before bed ‘can help weight loss’

Is it too early to be talking about wine?

Possibly – but if you need a little motivation to get you through the day, then this could be it.

If you’ve ever felt a little twinge of guilt about the calorific content of a glass of wine, then new findings from the University of Alberta in Canada may help to ease that guilt.

In short, a glass of red wine equals an hour in the gym, which is music to our ears.

You’re welcome!

The research found that health benefits in resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, are like those we get from exercise.

Resveratrol works because it acts to prevent fat cells from gaining more fat.

According to the study, you can help prevent weight gain by 70 per cent from drinking at least two glasses of wine a day, and red wine is the best option because of the resveratrol.

But for best results it has to be in the evening – this sadly doesn’t apply to a lunchtime glass.

Not completely convinced? The University of Denmark also found that people who have a daily drink, have slimmer waistlines than those who abstain.

So cheers to that!
