Thousands of mobile users across Malta and Gozo will soon have a much faster internet connection.
Melita has announced plans to launch a superfast 5G mobile network before the end of the year.
The company, based in Mriehel, has partnered with Ericsson to provide the most advanced and best performing mobile network in Malta.
Mario Bacchini, Head of Ericsson Malta, told 89.7 Bay: ‘By deploying 5G-ready infrastructure we embark on a new chapter in our long-term partnership with Melita.
‘Our leading solutions will give Melita the flexibility it needs to meet a growing demand for new 5G and IoT use cases, while significantly improving user experience.
‘What this means is that Melita is committed to providing the best possible mobile connectivity, with high speeds, excellent coverage across Malta and Gozo, and great reliability.
‘In addition, we will be as prepared as possible to roll-out next generation 5G as soon as the technology becomes available.’
Mireille Muscat, head of marketing at Melita, added: ‘With this brand new mobile network and the best fixed internet service in Malta, our customers will enjoy data freedom, whether using their internet at home, whether they’re on one of the 75,000 Melita WiFi hotspots around Malta and Gozo, and now, also when using 4.5G mobile data, wherever they are.
‘We are excited to start this joint journey towards 5G.’
