Malta and Gozo have been put on storm alert.
Heavy rain and gale-force winds are expected to batter the Maltese Islands for the next three days, according to forecasters.
Weather warnings have been issued for Malta and Gozo with the first thunderstorms likely on Monday afternoon.
The Met Office in Luqa warned of thunder and torrential rain as well as very strong winds going up to Force 8 or 9 on Tuesday.
Strong westerly winds are also expected on Wednesday, with showers likely on Thursday.
The good news is the sunshine will return on Friday just in time for a mild and sunny weekend.
Andrea Muscat from Maltese Islands Weather warned of heavy rainfall and gale force winds across Malta and Gozo from Monday to Wednesday.
He predicted ‘a lengthy period of steady rain, which will be heavy to torrential at times’.
As much as 60mm of rain is expected in some areas in ‘the strongest storm since February’.
Peak gusts reaching up to Force 10 at times are predicted to blow across the islands tomorrow afternoon.
The forecaster also said the sea is expected to be very rough, with wave heights reaching up to eight metres.
Malta Weather added: ‘The main threats are heavy rain and flooding in the usual low-lying areas and gale force winds.
‘It’s going to feel cold overnight in Malta and Gozo with temperatures expected to feel as cold as 8°C due to the very strong winds and rain showers that may be heavy thundery and with hail at times.’
