The German TV Series, Das Boot, has chosen Maltese as its filming location once again, for the third consecutive time!
Das Boot has been filming in Malta for its previous two seasons since 2018. This year, the series has increased its production to 120 days, from 72, and is filming in several locations around the Maltese Islands, such as the Malta Film Studios, San Anton Gardens, Mdina, Marsa, Paola, Mellieha, and the AFM Barracks.
The series’ production consists of over 800 production crew, cast, and extras. Malta Film Commissioner, Johann Grech added that this production spent over 3 million euros annually during the first and second seasons and is now spending over 7 million.
Grech also shared, ‘Though this time wasn’t easy due to COVID, we still managed to secure Das Boot in Malta because we have always been pro-active in our determination to make things happen for our film industry. Das Boot is the second big TV series shooting in Malta this year. Second month, second production.’
Meanwhile, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo said that the Government of Malta is currently laying foundations and necessary groundwork for Malta Film Studios to be equipped with the first soundstages in Malta, making it more attractive to filmmakers.
The Minister welcomed the Das Boot Production Team and expressed that this is a proven example of how Malta is being resilient even during these tough times and concluded that Malta has extended its cash rebate financial incentive for the coming years, confirming Malta’s commitment to film-makers.
Elsewhere, executive Producer of Das Boot, Moritz Polter thanked the Malta Film Commission under the stewardship of Johann Grech for their commitment and support. He shared how he feels proud that the series is filming in Malta for the third time and looks forward to filming the fourth season on our islands!
