Just when you thought it was time to fold away your winter coat, you’ll need to rethink your plans.
Spring in Malta and Gozo is set to start with three days of strong winds, heavy rain, thunder and even a risk of hail.
Forecasters warned the winds would be very strong, reaching Force 8 at times, starting on Wednesday.
They said thundery showers were expected on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which could spark flooding in some areas such as Msida, Birkirkara and Gzira.
The Met Office in Luqa said: ‘Rain and wind, reaching gale force strength, are expected on Wednesday and Thursday, the first day of spring.
‘A thunderstorm is forecast for Friday as an upper level trough forms over the central Mediterranean.’
Andrea Muscat from Maltese Islands Weather added: ‘A very strong wind from the East Northeast to East will blow across exposed areas of the Maltese Islands on Wednesday and Thursday.
‘This upper level trough will bring us a series of showers and thunderstorms.
‘These may be heavy, thundery and with hail at times.’
However, there is some good news – the weather is expected to be fine and sunny across Malta and Gozo by the weekend.
Malta has been enjoying glorious sunshine and mild weather since last weekend, following the most violent storm since 1982 at the beginning of the month.
