Gale force winds cancel ferries between Malta and Sicily

The Met Office has issued a weather warning with gale force winds and stormy seas expected to batter the Maltese Islands over the next two days.

Virtu Ferries Ltd cancelled all voyages between Malta and Sicily on Wednesday because of the bad weather.

The company said: ‘Kindly note that all voyages on Wednesday are cancelled due to bad weather.

‘To make up for the disruption in schedule, extra trips will operate on Thursday.

‘An extra voyage will depart from Pozzallo at 11am and arriving in Malta at 12.45pm.

‘Another catamaran will be leaving Malta at 6pm and arriving in Pozzallo at 7.45pm.

‘An early trip will be amended, and will be leaving Valletta at 7.30am.’

The Met Office issued a weather warning, predicting that wind speeds will reach gale force seven on Wednesday.

Temperatures are also expected to plunge to lows of 8°C on Wednesday and lows of 6°C on Thursday.
