Social media users have reacted with anger after large parts of Malta suffered another major power cut.
The electricity went off for around 15 minutes just before 9pm on Sunday night.
Thousands of homes were affected in several areas of Malta, including Mellieha, Qormi and St Paul’s Bay.
Gozo appeared to be worst hit with many streets in Nadur, Marsalforn, Xaghra, Ghajnsielem, Xlendi and Victoria plunged into darkness.
Frustrated Enemalta customers took to Facebook to vent their anger after the fourth major power cut in as many weeks.
One wrote: ‘We are going from bad to worse. The situation regarding our electricity supply is now a total joke.’
Another posted: ‘Disgraceful. Four power cuts in Gozo in four weeks and nobody resigns. This sort of thing doesn’t happen anywhere else in Europe in 2020.’
Not everywhere was affected.
89.7 Bay listeners in Fgura, Sliema, Marsascala and Zabbar reported no problems with their electricity.
Last week, Enemalta plc warned that power cuts were likely after the electricity interconnector on the seabed between Malta and Sicily suffered damage before Christmas.
Officials said: ‘It is not known when the necessary repairs will be completed, and this means that more power cuts are expected.
‘Our suspicion is that the cable was severed by a ship’s anchor during stormy weather off Sicily.
‘Two out of the three cables are damaged, and therefore the interconnector is out of action.’
