A distressed turtle that was rescued off the coast of Gozo six months ago has been returned safe and well to the sea.
Menqa was treated by vets from Nature Trust Malta after being discovered in trouble by divers.
She could barely breathe and had several strands of fishing net and rope stuck in her throat after trying to eat them.
The team from Bubbles Dive Centre in Marsalforn, that rescued the creature, shared news of her release on social media.
They posted: ‘Some of you may remember we rescued Menqa earlier this summer after she had swallowed fishing line.
‘Well this is Menqa being released. It’s a proud day for us and just makes our job even better.
‘Good luck in your travels Menqa.’
Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana was given the honour of returning the adorable turtle back into the sea at Hondoq Bay in Qala on Wednesday.
