One of the biggest films of the year has arrived at the Eden Cinemas in St Julian’s just in time for Christmas.
Mary Poppins Returns opened in Malta on Friday.
The reboot of the classic Disney favourite comes 54 years after the original was released, marking the longest ever gap between a live action film and its sequel.
The film is set in Depression-era London, with Mary Poppins returning to the city 25 years on to reunite with Jane and Michael, who are now all grown up with children of their own.
Emily Blunt takes up the umbrella as the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious nanny.
The actress takes over the lead role from Julie Andrews, who famously starred in the original film.
She said: ‘It’s very surreal to me being Mary Poppins.
‘I think Mary Poppins as a character is so iconic, and I think the film, for me, and I think for most people, is one of those films that is sort of seared into people’s memory, an emblem of their nostalgia in many ways.’
Blunt is joined by a host of big names in the film, including Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Meryl Streep and Colin Firth.
Mary Poppins Returns is directed by Rob Marshall and is due to be released in Malta before Christmas.
