Echoing the final line of the track, Em reflected, ‘you can do anything you set your mind to, man…’, before announcing his achievement, alongside a short video that detailed the incredible success of Lose Yourself, which originally featured on the soundtrack for 8 Mile.
It was also this track that earned Eminem his very first US number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and led to him win an Oscar for Best Original Song back in 2003.
Lose Yourself is among the few songs, such as The Killers’ Mr. Brightside and Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours, released in the first decade of the 21st century that managed to reach over one billion streams on Spotify.
This also isn’t the first time that one of Eminem’s tracks has surpassed the one billion mark, with his 2002 collab with Nate Dogg, Till I Collapse, having also achieved this milestone.
Elsewhere, the oldest song to achieve this milestone is Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, followed by Oasis’ Wonderwall.
