€200,000 cocaine haul seized at Malta’s airport

A €200,000 cocaine haul has been seized in one of the biggest ever drugs seizures at Malta’s airport.

Customs officers found 2kg of the Class A drug during a luggage search on Wednesday evening.

A man was stopped by officials after flying in from Brussels at around 11pm.

A spokesman for the customs department said: ‘The man had been stopped by officials after he passed through the blue exit channel at arrivals.

‘He was then directed towards a scanning machine, through which the suspicious packages were detected.

‘Following a preliminary field test, all indications led to the powder being cocaine.’

The man is being questioned at the police headquarters in Floriana.
