In 2021, fines for using a phone while driving totalled about €1 million.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri provided the information in response to a query from Nationalist MP Ivan Bartolo in Parliament.

According to Camilleri, €971,781.52 was paid for 9,599 cell phone violations.

The violation carries a penalty of three to six points.
