Colosseum Being Built In Malta For Gladiator 2

Who would have thought that Malta would have its own Colosseum! 

 
Collider’s Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub was able to capture some photographs from the set of the highly anticipated film Gladiator 2, which began filming in Malta just a few days ago. 
 
The photographs show that this Gladiator 2 site is immense in scale, with a massive coliseum – or at least a large portion of it – being built on our little island facing the Mediterranean Sea. The gigantic set is bounded by large tents, implying a sizable crew was involved in putting it together.

 

Here, we’ll be seeing Paul Mescal (Aftersun), Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth), and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) in costume as they begin to bring their characters to life for quite some time. 

 
The fact that Paramount and Universal chose a real, life-sized coliseum for its most critical scenes (rather than constructing a CGI backdrop) indicates that the studio is confident in the project and the promising script written by David Scarpa.
