Chelsea and England footballer Danny Drinkwater has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a road accident.
The 29-year-old had reportedly left a party in Greater Manchester shortly before his Range Rover crashed into a Skoda at around 12.30am on Monday morning.
Drinkwater was reportedly with a female lawyer who he had met at the party when he allegedly crashed on a country road in Cheshire.
The collision happened six miles from Danny’s £1.8million home.
A source reportedly told The Sun it was a ‘really nasty’ crash, adding: ‘Danny’s been partying like mad recently, but hopefully this will be a wake up call telling him to slow down.’
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: ‘Shortly after 12.30am we were called to a collision in Ashley Road in Mere.
‘We arrived at the scene and found a black Land Rover estate car had collided with a wall.
‘There was one man and two women, thankfully they just received minor injuries.
‘A 29-year-old man from Nether Alderley was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
‘He is currently in custody assisting police with inquiries.’
