The number of passengers using Malta’s buses has soared in the first six months of the year.
Figures covering January to June saw a jump of 1.5 million compared to the same period in 2018.
Malta’s transport minister Ian Borg revealed a total of 26,500,868 passengers used public transport during the first half of 2019.
He said around 30,000 passengers benefited from the new free public transport scheme, allowing teenagers and students free rides on the buses.
Dr Borg said it was a priority to persuade even more commuters to take bus rather than using their own cars.
Malta Public Transport carried a total of 53.4 million passengers last year, setting a new record.
