The UK’s independent healthcare regulator has approved the use of the Pfizer/BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine.
“The government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use,” the UK Government said.
“The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week.”
Just yesterday, it was announced that the European Medicines Agency has received an application for conditional marketing authorisation (CMA) for BNT162b2, a COVID‑19 mRNA, which is the vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer. The assessment of BNT162b2 will proceed under an accelerated timeline. An opinion on the marketing authorisation could be issued within weeks, depending on whether the data submitted are sufficiently robust and complete to show the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
