The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ministry for Health have just confirmed that an 89-year old man died after testing positive for COVID-19.
In the statement, the Health Ministry said that the man was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on the 23rd of August with a number of underlying health conditions. Upon being admitted to the hospital the man was tested for COVID-19 and resulted negative, however he was given care in isolation since he had been in contact (within the community) with a person who had tested positive.
He was discharged from Mater Dei on the 31st of August, in the morning, without any symptoms. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly, and was admitted to Mater Dei once again, and it was at that point that he tested positive for COVID-19.
The Health Ministry once again appealed for everyone to adhere to all the precautionary measures which are in place.
Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at such a difficult time.
