Horror as boy, 12, is hit by ambulance in Sliema

A 12-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after he was hit by an ambulance answering an emergency call in Sliema.

The child was trying to cross the road when he accident happened on the corner of Manuel Dimech Street and The Strand, near Marks and Spencer.

Malta Police told 89.7 Bay the ambulance involved in the collision was being driven by a 49-year-old man from Birżebbuġa.

The accident happened at around 6.30pm on Saturday evening.

The boy was reported to have suffered serious head injuries but was ‘in a stable condition’.

Police appealed for witnesses to come forward.

An investigation into the accident has been launched.
