Boris Johnson dropped out of the race to succeed Liz Truss as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Sunday evening, effectively ending his improbable bid to reclaim a job he lost three months ago amid a slew of scandals and putting his rival, Rishi Sunak, in a commanding position to be the country’s next leader ✊

 
The result of the contest will not be known until Monday afternoon at the earliest. Furthermore, Mr Johnson did not endorse Mr Sunak, and another candidate, Penny Mordaunt, is still in the running 🗳️
