Biker injured in crash at Gozo’s worst accident blackspot

A biker has been rushed to hospital after a crash at Gozo’s worst accident blackspot.

The smash happened on Mgarr Road in Ghajnsielem at 12.45pm on New Year’s Day.

Police said the 57-year-old motorcyclist from Munxar ‘was grievously injured’ in the collision with a car driven by a 20-year-old from Sannat.

The biker was taken to Gozo General Hospital by ambulance.

It’s the latest serious accident on Mgarr Road.

The mayor of Ghajnsielem has already called for traffic-calming measures to be introduced on the road, which links Mgarr Harbour to Victoria.

Speaking in October after a series of horror crashes on the road, Kevin Cauchi said: ‘It is unacceptable that nothing has been done yet to address the situation.

‘People using the road are either in a hurry to catch the ferry or they are tired after a day at work and eager to get home early.

‘This is also a residential area which means you get people parking and driving out of side roads.’
