Beyoncé has unveiled a brand new single.
Spirit is the first track from a Lion King-inspired album she has produced, called The Lion King: The Gift.
The track, which Beyonce co-wrote along with IIya Salmanzadeh and Timothy McKenzie, is an original composition for the upcoming film’s soundtrack.
It’s included on the album which will be released on July 19, the day The Lion King, a CGI reboot of Disney’s animated classic, opens at the Eden Cinemas in St Julian’s.
Speaking about the compilation, Beyonce said: ‘I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film.
‘It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.
‘I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline.
‘Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine.
‘It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers.
‘Authenticity and heart were important to me.’
The new Lion King film stars the voices of Beyonce, James Earl Jones, Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, Alfre Woodard and John Oliver, and is expected to be the hottest movie of the summer in Malta.
