Astronaut shares new picture of Malta from space

A stunning image of Malta has been captured by an astronaut hundreds of miles away from the Earth’s surface.

European Space Agency flight engineer Paolo Nespoli snapped Valletta from the International Space Station, which orbits at a height of 250 miles.

He wrote: ‘Hello Malta and La Valletta! I bet a lot of people are enjoying the last weeks of holiday on your shores.’

His mesmerising picture shows the Inner Harbour area with hundreds of streets clearly visible.

Marsa Race Course can be seen as well as Manoel island and the yacht marinas in Vittoriosa, Ta’ Xbiex and Msida.

The Italian astronaut has shared dozens of spectacular images from the space station on his Instagram account in recent weeks.
