MFA’s President Bjorn Vassallo says this is a possibility
After yet again two disappointing turnouts by the Maltese National Football Squad in the EURO 2020 qualifiers experts are pleading the MFA to find an immediate solution.
In an interview with NET TV’s Replay, Malta Football Association president Bjorn Vassallo revealed that there are ongoing talks with the Italian Football Federation, together with Lega Pro regarding the possibility of having a Maltese team playing in Italy’s third tier.
Bjorn Vassallo insisted that if we need to find a quick solution to these endless woes there is no choice but to improve our professionalism.
MFA’s president explained that the potential club will be a newly formed one, possibly a feeder club – based for example on the Juventus under 23’s format that will be composed of mainly Maltese players.
Vassallo said: ‘We are analyzing all options available and we will meet up with Lega Pro and the FIGC next month to explain our ideas’.
