The biggest name in opera has paid a glowing tribute to Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja.
Andrea Bocelli, 58, thanked his friend for inviting him to perform on stage together in Malta.
The show at the Granaries in Floriana received rave reviews with some fans describing it as ‘magical’, ‘truly wonderful’ and ‘the best night of my life’.
The Italian legend took to Instagram to praise the 39-year-old Maltese opera star.
He wrote: ‘It was a pleasure to be a guest and share the stage with Joseph Calleja, actually one of my most favourite tenors in the world.
‘Before I met him I was already impressed by the sweetness of his vocal timbre and by the quality of his vibrato.’
He added: ‘Right after meeting him I can also say to appreciate his beautiful soul.
‘That’s what I said few days ago, in Malta, standing in front of the crowd for the concert gala celebrating the first 20 years of his amazing career.’
The two men sang together on Saturday night at a special show to mark Joseph Calleja’s 20th anniversary in music.
Bocellli, who has been permanently blind since the age of 12, has never let his disability stop him when it comes to living life to its fullest.
He enjoys the likes of skiing, rollerblading and horse riding as well as performing to sell-out crowds around the world.
