Police have launched an investigation after a second major drugs haul at the Malta Freeport in a week.
Cocaine with a street value of almost €6 million was discovered in two containers at the terminal in Kalafrana.
They had arrived in Malta from South America.
Customs officials said they uncovered around 51.6kg of cocaine hidden in 43 well-wrapped packets.
A spokesman for Customs Malta told 89.7 Bay: ‘The first container was found to be carrying 20 packs of cocaine, weighing 24kgs and worth approximately €2.7 million euro.
‘The second reefer container was found to be carrying 23 packs of cocaine, weighing 27.6kgs and worth €3.1 million.
‘In both cases the drugs were found hidden behind panels.’
The two containers were loaded with fruit and had come from South America en-route to Albania.
The latest find comes less than a week after cocaine worth around €32.4 million was seized from containers at the Malta Freeport terminal at Kalafrana.
