This is the terrifying moment an emergency helicopter rescued a man stranded on a Gozo cliff.
The climber, who was left clinging for his life to a rock at Mgarr ix-Xini, was plucked to safety by a helicopter winchman,
The man, 58, was airlifted to hospital by an Armed Forces of Malta search and rescue crew.
The helicopter, based at Luqa Airport, was alerted at 12.30pm.
Tourists told 89.7 Bay how they watched the dramatic rescue unfold at the Gozo beauty spot.
Andy Christie from Glasgow, who is on a diving holiday in Malta, said: ‘It was like watching something out of a movie.
‘The rescue crew in the helicopter were really impressive and very professional. They’re proper heroes.’
Malta Police said the climber, from Sannat, called the emergency services himself after getting stuck on the steep cliff.
A specialist drone was used by the Emergency Response Rescue Corps to help locate his exact position.
He was later treated at Gozo General Hospital for minor injuries.
Mgarr ix-Xini became world famous in 2014 when it was used as the main filming location of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s movie ‘By The Sea’.
The pair spent almost three months shooting scenes in Gozo.
