A large Scottish castle is listed for sale for bids over £30,000 ($37,000), but there’s a catch: according to its current owners, renovation will cost an additional £12 million ($14.8 million).

Brough Lodge is located in one of the most isolated regions in the UK on Fetlar, the fourth-largest of the Shetland Islands.

It may be reached by ferry from the mainland of Shetland, which is reachable after an hour and a half of flying time from Edinburgh or three and a half hours from London.

 

The island now has 69 residents, up from 48 at its lowest point in early 2009, according to the Fetlar Community Association website.

The castle is perched on a slope and offers views of the grassland and rocky cliffs that extend to the sea in Fetlar.
