We all know how harsh Maltese heatwaves are!

Like other natural disasters, heatwaves can be very dangerous for people’s health – so follow these tips to cope with the summer heat.
Stay hydrated with plenty of water even if you’re not thirsty. Always keep a water bottle within reach to avoid dehydration.

Stay indoors during the hottest time of the day, from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. to limit time outside in the Sun.

Try and stay out of direct sunlight. If you’re under the sun, don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat.
Alcohol, sugary soda, coffee, energy drinks or other caffeinated drinks will dehydrate you. Try to avoid them during heatwaves.

Eat smaller meals but eat more often. Try to include food with nutrients and with higher water content in your diet.
Wear light, loose-fitting, airy and light-coloured clothing. Tight and dark-coloured clothing trap heat.

If you feel overheated, cool off with wet washcloths or take a cool bath or shower. Carrying a cold water bottle spray to spray on your pressure points can help bring your body temperature down.
