Tributes have been paid to a Maltese biker killed in a crash on Sunday morning.
Giulio Baldacchino, 44, from Mellieha died when his motorbike crashed on the Coast Road near Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
He served for a number of years with the Armed Forces of Malta.
Malta Police said the accident happened at around 7.45am.
A spokesman told 89.7 Bay: ‘The man appears to have lost control of his Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle.
‘A medical team was called to assist the victim but he was unfortunately certified dead at the scene.’
Friends and relatives took to social media to pay their respects just hours after the tragedy.
Paying tribute, one friend said: Giulio loved his motorbikes and they were a massive part of his life. He’d been riding since he was 18 and he rode all year round.
‘He had joined a local biker group so that he had like-minded people to ride with.
‘He was well liked and had a wide range of friends, both bikers and non-bikers.’
Another friend, Marvin Schembri, posted that he was ‘feeling heartbroken’ on Facebook.
He added: ‘RIP dear friend Giulio Baldacchino.
A Maltese mother, who lost her son in a similar accident, posted: ‘So sad. It reminds me of when my son Edward lost his life. He too had a motorcycle accident. May he rest in peace.’
