11-year-old, Liam Daily completed his 7km swim from Ċirkewwa to Mġarr ix-Xini in Gozo in just over 2 hours earlier today morning.

Liam was accompanied by local athlete Fabio Spiteri and swimmer Pia Grech.

The main goal of the challenge was to raise awareness about sea pollution. He says “I didn’t do this swim just for the fun of it, but to raise awareness about plastic waste in our sea”

“It’s annoying that at times I see plastic while I’m swimming,” he told Times of Malta, “That is why I’m taking on this challenge, for people to be aware of our environment.”

The young swimmer is no stranger to lengthy swims. At just 8 years old, he had swam between Comino and Gozo in less than 1 hour.

In 2021, he also swam from Xatt L-Aħmar in Gozo to Ċirkewwa – a distance of about 6km.

Today’s swim marks his longest challenge yet!

Keep making waves Liam 😉🌊
