10 epic events to look forward to in Malta in 2020

Every year Malta plays host to some unforgettable events – and last year was no different.

From an impressive Isle of MTV concert in Floriana to Fairyland Malta, there was certainly lots to get excited about in 2019.

But 2020 is shaping up to be every bit as exciting, with some amazing events to look forward to.

Here are just some of the ones we can’t wait for:

 

Malta Marathon, March 1

The Malta Marathon is in fact three races in one: the full marathon, the half marathon and the walkathon.

The full marathon starts off from Mdina and passes through Rabat, Mtarfa, Ta’ Qali, Mosta, Attard, Pieta, Gzira and ends in Sliema.

Malta International Fireworks Festival, April 18 to 30

This spectacular event is held in Valletta’s Grand Harbour and other locations around Malta and Gozo.

Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the spectacle free of charge.

The Malta International Fireworks Festival is organised by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority.

 

Valletta Green Festival, May 7 to 10

The Valletta Green Festival is one of the most colourful events in Malta’s capital city.

St George’s Square will be transformed by more than 150,000 potted plants to create an amazing carpet of colour outside Main Guard.

This year’s festival runs from May 7 to 10.

 

BBC Concert Orchestra in Malta, July 10

The mission of the BBC Concert Orchestra is to bring inspiring musical experiences to everyone, everywhere.

The orchestra can turn its hand to classical, jazz, film music and crossover, and has performed all over the world.

It will return to Malta in 2020 for a special BBC Radio 2 ‘Friday Night Is Music Night’ concert on Friday 10 July.

 

Isle of MTV Malta, July 15

The free Isle of MTV Malta concert attracts more than 50,000 visitors each year.

The musical spectacle includes a world-class line-up and offers a unique opportunity to hear the hottest hit music stars live.

This year’s show will be held on Wednesday 15 July. Stay tuned to 89.7 Bay for the latest line-up news.

 

Celine Dion live in Malta, July 27

Global megastar Celine Dion will stop off at the Granaries in Floriana on Monday 27 July as part of her Courage world tour.

We’re sure the Maltese crowd will be in fine voice to welcome the singer, who has sold more than 200 million albums to date.

 

Summer Daze Malta, August 9 to 16

Summer Daze is Malta’s biggest dance music festival, in association with Creamfields and BBC Radio 1.

Some of the world’s biggest pop acts and DJs will be locked in for the third edition of the festival in August.

Previous Summer Daze performers include David Guetta, Tyga, James Arthur, Rita Ora and many more.

 

Notte Bianca,  October 3

Notte Bianca is Malta’s biggest annual arts and culture festival.

For one special night every October, Notte Bianca lights up the Valletta cityscape with a spectacular celebration that is open to the public free of charge.

Festivalgoers can expect to experience the very best in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literary events, as well as an exploration into the emerging world of new and digital arts.

 

Birgu By Candlelight, October 9 and 10

It’s one of the most magical nights in Malta’s annual events calendar.

Birgu by Candlelight is a treat for all the family in Vittoriosa, one of Malta’s most historic cities.

Two days and nights of cultural activities including music, dance and pageantry culminate in Birgu by Candlelight on Saturday night, when the medieval streets are lit by thousands of candles.

 

Rolex Middle Sea Race, October 17

The annual Middle Sea Race starts in Valletta’s Grand Harbour.

Around 100 beautiful yachts take part in the event, which is regarded as one of the world’s most challenging offshore races.

The 41st edition of the race will start on Saturday 17 October.
